1,000bhp convertible to be launched at auction in the US later this month; with just 80 being made, UAE buyers will need to join the queue.

After blasting around the streets of Abu Dhabi for an episode of Top Gear in July (pictures here), Bugatti will at the forefront of the UAE’s supercar-buyers’ minds later this month with the launch of the new Veyron Convertible.
Just 80 are expected to made, with a price tag of $2.25m. Cash-rich and car-mad Gulf buyers are likely to be heading the queue. The UAE luxury car market grew 56 per cent between 2005 and 2007.
The convertible is the follow up to the 1,000bhp Veyron Coupe - top speed 253mph and just 150 made to date. Named the Grand Sport (more pictures here), the first batch will be auctioned at Pebble Beach Concours in the US on August 17, with delivery sometime in 2009.
