Art is starting to become big business in the UAE, and auction houses like Christie’s and Bonhams are tapping the market’s potential.
Christie’s recently had an auction here, and though the sale amount was less than expected, 70 percent of the items was sold. Bonhams has an auction on November 24, and it hopes that the financial crisis will not be too much of a spoilsport.
While the auction will feature some local art alongside works from Iran, India and Pakistan, it will also preview some jewellery pieces that are going to be on its New York and London December sales.
The auction is on at the One and Only Royal Mirage hotel in Dubai, and it is open to everyone.
