Bahrain’s culture and information minister, Sheikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al Khalifa, has ordered one and two-star hotels to close down their bars and discos, reports Gulf News.  She has also asked the hotels not to sell liquor, and to ban female singers from performing in their halls and restaurants.

The ban, effective from Friday, may even be extended to three and four-star hotels, says the report.

The move follows Islamist MPs in Bahrain last month demanding strict action against what they call “sinful activities.” In a list of the Top 10 Sin Cities, released by online magazine Ask Men in April last year, Manama came eighth.

Looks like the country’s moral clean-up has begun.
