Etisalat claims a software upgrade sent to its BlackBerry customers has drained batteries in a “very limited number of devices,” reports The National.

“These upgrades were required for service enhancements particularly for issues identified related to the handover between 2G to 3G network coverage areas,” a company said in a statement. “A conflict in the settings in some BlackBerry devices has led to a slight technical fault while upgrading the software of these devices.”

The company was responding to local and international media reports that the software patch contains files named “interceptor” and are marked by a company named SS8, which gives communications operators interception software.

Etisalat acknowledged it received 300 complaints regarding the software, and has advised its customers to contact its call center to “resolve the issue completely.”

quote up That's not the first time Etisalat send its customers enhancement surprises. Blackbery provided by etisalat is unable to connect to wireless networks in range which is usually one of the most important features of blackbery phones. Another feature blocked by etisalat in blackberry phones is using the device as a modem and connecting to the internet from your computer through blackberry, well for me that was a huge feature I found only in Blackberry documentation online and not in my storm device! My storm device is a real dumb storm that can only send and receive emails while the rest of features are only icons in the screen!
However blackbery mobiles still have some features and applications available online that are not YET blocked by etisalat like the software development products which are not free and some free stuff like the IM, facebook, twitter, word, excel, .. etc. and those exist in so many other mobiles not only in my 3600 AED dumb storm! quote up

quote up Etisalat is nothing more than bunch of lyers ignorant people. I personally know over 20 pple that downloaded the patch and got affected. How could there b only 300. Also, their suggestion to back up and restore does not work. Please, fix the bug Eitsalat.. that is all we need...
and do not ever be creative again.. leave it to others.
I will not talk about the consequences that we are going thru due to Etisalat arrogant and ignorant attitude.. but all I can say, is that we are at their mercy... quote up

quote up Etisalat Blackberry - what a disaster!! And as for there only being 300 complaints??......well actually maybe that is correct - I for one haven't even been able to complain - my battery doesn't last long enough to get through - even if the damn thing is plugged in!! And just before the charge runs out the handset burns my bloody ear......hopeless! quote up

quote up There is only one way to really solve this problem - and that is to reformat (i.e. wipe) your blackberry, and re-install the Operating System. There really is no other solution, as shared by many who were affected by the patch (obviously, more than 300 users).

Information on how to safely wipe and re-instate your BlackBerry can be found on www.berryuae.com. Always backup your device before wiping it. Good luck! quote up

quote up Guys!! sorry to say.... but try DU!, ETISALAT is the most useless service provided in the world..I believe though.

Even in the Capital like Abu Dhabi, they are unable to provide the reliable internet. They have given me WIMAX (Antina) Internet, which never works consistently instead of charging much higher than the world.

The guys in Etisalat will simply say " Sir, it will work only in this way, we are unable to resolve the problem", they will not tell you to remove it.. or go for any other solution.

and...You don't have anyone else to complain.. not even TRA..just shout!!

Another news, I am calling to my friend's number and it says Switched OFF..... he showed me the mobile ON. He called Etisalat and they said " Sir there is a problem in the network, we are trying to fix it",. lolz.

The best service they are providing is " Treating you nicely and quickly in their offices", I mean the walk in customer service counters. They are good somehow.

Etisalat said their profit raised by 11%...lolz. quote up
