A family in the outskirts of Medina, Saudi Arabia, has accused a ‘jinn’ (Arabic for genie) of theft and harassment, and has taken legal action against it, reports the BBC, citing a report in Al Watan newspaper. The family claims the spiritual entity has thrown stones at them and stole valuables from their home, include mobile phones.

“We began to hear strange sounds,” the head of the family told the Saudi daily. He did not want wish to be named. “At first we did not take it seriously, but then stranger things started to happen and the children got particularly scared when the [jinn] started throwing stones.”

He added: “A woman spoke to me first, and then a man. They said we should get out of the house.”

The family lived in the house for 15 years; however, all family members have recently moved out.

The Saudi court is looking into the family’s claims.

According to Islam, jinns are spiritual entities that can harm humans.
