US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is in the UAE to drum up backing from oil rich Gulf States, reports The Associated Press. Geithner said Washington hopes to work closely with its allies in the Middle East to help build a financial foundation for world economies as they recover from the recession: “We of course want to not just address the immediate causes of the financial crisis,” Geithner said after the meeting. “We want to rebuild a stronger foundation for more balanced growth globally.”
He made the comments following a private meeting with UAE Foreign Trade Minister Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi.
Geithner arrived in the Gulf on Tuesday to meet with officials. He met with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah on Tuesday.
