Two people from the UK have won GBP45.5 million ($75.7 million) each from the EuroMillions lottery game on Friday, but are yet to claim their prize, reports The Daily Mail. They are the country’s biggest ever lottery winners, the paper claims.
“We have no valid claims so far,” a spokesman from Camelot, which operates the game in the UK, told the paper. He added that it was “absolutely extraordinary” that two lottery players from the same country won such a huge amount.
The report estimates that the winners have probably not checked their tickets or worse, the tickets have been lost. The winners have only 180 days to claim the prize, and every day that they delay, they will lose interest of around GBP 6,100 ($10,100) each.
While it could be that the winners are just unaware, what if they did actually toss the ticket away by mistake? A pet chewed it up perhaps, or it landed inside the laundry with a pile of clothes? They would have no way of knowing how close they got to being as wealthy as Jenson Button.
