The Dubai Metro has served over 2.5 million passengers since its launch on September 9, reported Gulf News, citing a Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) official.
Ramadan Abdullah, director of operations at the Rail Agency said the service is averaging 57,000 per day.
He said the metro hired more staff to crack down on violations, including sitting in the wrong class and consuming food and drink on the trains.
“We have launched various campaigns to educate them. We have increased the number of signs and instruction boards at the stations to educate passenger and guide them to through their journey,” explained Abdullah.
“We have also increased the number of staff members at the stations and inside the trains to guide the passengers and check the violations. Also, we have hired more Arabic speaking staff, especially Emiratis, to be deputized at the stations.”
As for the metro’s performance, Abdullah said the service has a “95 percent punctuality level.”
