Money really does talk
Three men, two Emiratis aged 19 and an 18-year-old Russian, have been convicted of the first-degree murder of a Pakistani driver by Abu Dhabi Criminal Court, reported The National on Sunday. They were also convicted of alcohol consumption and stealing the driver’s wallet. The driver, aged 35, worked for the Emirati boys’ family.
There were sentenced to three years in jail. The Russian boy will be deported when he completes his sentence.
Three years! People have been put away for longer for breaking minor laws.
The boys hit the driver with a block of wood, doused him with petrol and set him on fire. How could they have gotten three years for that?
The boys paid the victim’s family AED5 million, AED200,000 blood money, and the rest compensation for their loss.
The man’s family, who live in a village in Pakistan, accepted the money and forfeited their right to seek the death penalty.
It doesn’t say much when convicted murders are let off the hook because of their wealth. Those boys are a danger to society, regardless of how rich their parents are.

Obviously, the victim's family needed the money.
This sentence is as obscene as the crime.
Also, I would stress again that the UAE has the fairest judicial system in the world, compared to even USA or UK. Citizens get off the hook everywhere.
