Dubai issues 11,635 business licenses in 2009

The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) announced on Saturday that it issued 11,635 licenses for various businesses in 2009. Of the total, 76 percent of the licenses were given in the commercial sector, 22 percent in the professional sector, and 1 percent each in the industrial and tourism sectors. DED issued 157 licenses to foreign companies during the year, including 21 percent to firms from the UK, 4 percent to firms from the US and 3.2 percent to companies from Singapore.
The body also said that license renewal saw a 2 percent increase in 2009. The total number of customers in DED’s portfolio reached 102,732 in 2009, with an average inclusion of 8,561 customers per month.
