"Is it the end of the world? Nasa picture suggests Dubai globe is sinking back into the sea," screamed a headline in yesterday's Daily Mail newspaper. The report, based on a picture taken from the International Space Station, said that the man-made islands are "starting to look rather ragged around the edges... now it looks like the project will never be completed".

The report was based on a single photograph, taken from the International Space Station, which apparently shows that the "islands are rapidly merging together and also appear to be sinking."

Developer Nakheel promptly denied the claims: "Speculative reports suggesting that The World islands are sinking are wholly inaccurate," it said in a statement.

Looking at the Nasa image cited by the Daily Mail, it is not immediately clear how the newspaper came to the conclusion that The World is sinking. So can you guess which of these images was behind the report?
