The one with Abu Dhabi

‘So, OK, things aren’t necessarily all that bad’, I think. Then I log on to Emirates 24|7 where I read, “Virgin Galactic wants Abu Dhabi spaceport.”  Virgin Galactic commercial director Stephen Attenborough, said “We have focused on launching and running safe commercial sub-orbital tourism flights from Spaceport America in New Mexico. However, in the future we may seek regulatory approvals from the US authorities required to take the system and operation out of the US. If we do that and are successful then Abu Dhabi is likely to be a location of particular interest.”

Yet another example to prove the point that it is now Abu Dhabi’s time in the spotlight, though when it comes to finding such examples I am spoilt for choice.

But I think, any Dubai-ans that are bothered by all of this should take a deep breath and calm down a bit; Dubai has  had its fair share of attention during pre-recession days, when Dubai shut even the harshest critics up by delivering on its larger-than-life property dreams. Though for now it has all ended in tatters (and some rather embarrassing revelations of debt), Dubai is still soldiering on. That’s more important than being the centre of attention.

Dubai-ans should take pride in the fact that the Emirate has managed to keep its head up through it all. Who knows, one day we might grab that place in the sun back; until then, survival will have to do.
