Al Jazeera alleges sabotage, hints at “political agenda” following signal disruption during opening game of the World Cup

With exclusive broadcast rights to show the World Cup games in the Arab world, Aljazeera infuriated legions of fans across the region when a loss of signal blanked out television screens for half of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa. Outraged viewers blame the network, but the station is crying foul, alleging the signal was deliberately jammed in what amounts to sabotage.
In this video clip, the director general for Aljazeera sport says that the network had wanted its Arab viewers to have the chance to “enjoy a few of the World Cup events for free,” adding that, “sadly there are some with political agendas to the contrary.”
