Dubai has attracted its fair share of bad press in recent years, be it over the debt standstill or suspected Mossad assassination, or leaky aquariums and closed observation decks at Burj Khalifa. But now it’s trying to do something about it.

A few years ago, Dubai could do no wrong. The world’s media was enticed by its ‘bling bling’ image, with numerous celeb appearances and ever-crazier property developments.

But no more.

From the debt standstill and suspected Mossad assassination to closed observation decks at Burj Khalifa and leaky aquariums, the emirate has been struck by a barrage of negative publicity. Now it’s trying to do something about it, to attract investors and sustain its tourism industry.
