A meeting between our man Bernie and this Russian Prime Minister seemed inevitable when the former President Vladimir Putin announced that Sochi will host a Russian Formula One Grand Prix from 2014-2020. On October 14 2010, Ecclestone, Putin and CEO of Rusal Oleg Deripaska all attended a signing ceremony in Sochi.
Putin started out as a KGB agent in East Germany in 1985. In 1990 he became the chairman of the St. Petersburg City Council’s International Relations Committee and so began his life in politics. On the resignation of Boris Yeltsin he became acting president on December 31, 1999. Shortly after he was elected and re-elected president for two straight terms.
