In 2001, after the September 11 attacks in the United States, Prince Charles hosted Bakr bin Laden at a dinner to “promote a greater understanding of Islam,” reported the BBC. The dinner was organized to support the Oxford Center of Islamic Studies, where the Bin Laden family funds the fellowship program.

Bakr bin Laden, Oussama bin Laden’s half-brother, is the chairman of the Saud-based Bin Laden Group, a multinational construction and holding company for the family’s assets.

The two met in October 2001 when Prince Khalid Al Faisal Al Saud introduced the prince to bin Laden in London. Upon meeting Bakr bin Laden, Prince Charles jokingly asked, “What’s your brother been up to these days?”
