Qatar eyes Christie’s auction house

Qatar is also building a museum that will house regional and international art.

The Emir of Qatar,Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, told The Financial Times that Qatar is keen to acquire Christie’s auction house as a part of its plans to become a leading cultural destination in the Gulf.
The London-based auction house, which is owned by French billionaire Francois Pinault, has said that it didn’t receive a formal approach from the Qataris.
Qatar has also lately purchased a string of iconic properties including the landmark UK department store Harrods.
