Widely seen as trying to shed his clumsy public image, UK’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown is viewed as intensely private –much unlike his predecessor, the charismatic Tony Blair. Recent events have added considerably to his challenge.
The Prime Minister took a hefty dose of unflattering press this week when a microphone picked up his offensive comments about a member of the public that Brown referred to as “bigoted.”
Despite the uncomfortable scrutiny this week, the scholarly Brown generally enjoys an easier go with journalists. In 2008, he met Queen Rania at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, where they discussed ‘Corporate Global Citizenship in the 21st Century.” The press surrounding that event was certainly far kinder.
