At the FIFA World Player Gala in Zurich last year, Queen Rania of Jordan and world-renowned footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo were among the those honored – each for their respective specialties.
The “Portuguese maestro” took home the first-ever FIFA Puskás Award, honoring the most outstanding goal of the previous season. Speaking to media about the goal that landed him his award, Ronaldo said, “”If you asked me how to score a goal like that I wouldn’t be able to tell you. It’s just hitting it hard and seeing the net billow, that’s all.”
That same evening, Queen Rania was honored for the type of global initiative that is earning her wide acclaim, accepting the prestigious FIFA Presidential Award on behalf of her efforts in the “One Goal” initiative. The campaign aspires to universal education for all children.
