Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum

Enough sport; in that sphere we know Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum is well connected. But did you know he also has big contacts in celebrity circles?

Earlier this year, for instance, the Sheikh was photographed with none other than Gordon Sumner, CBE. That’s Sting, to you and me. The pair met at Meydan racecourse during the third round of the Al Maktoum Challenge.

Sting found global success as the lead-singer and main song-writer for The Police. The former school teacher from near Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the UK has notched up 16 Grammy awards and an Oscar nomination (for best song) and is a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. After meeting the Sheikh, Sting performed for some 16,000 people at Meydan.
