Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum is a huge sports fan, and he has no doubt been proud to watch the development of sporting endeavor in the UAE from pastime to professional enterprise. A major figure in that transformation has been Saeed Humaid Al Tayer, one of the top sports administrators in the country, according to Gulf news. The Vice-Chairman of Emirates Racing Acadamy, Al Tayer was the man the Sheikh turned-to to ensure the completion of the spectacular Meydan racecourse. He is also chairman of Meydan and the Dubai Racing Club.
And he’s well placed to ensure top performance. After starting his competitive sporting career playing Handball, Al Tayer switched to powerboat racing where he found great success in the 90s, winning 11 Grand Prix and becoming UIM Class 1 World Powerboat champion.
Oh, and he also has a few of his own business interests, not the least of which is Al Tayer Motors.
