The sale of famed London department store Harrod’s made Mohamed al-Fayed a very wealthy billionaire indeed, as the Egyptian born magnate and the “Qatari royal family” last month exchanged $2.25 dollars to seal the deal.
The dynamic al-Fayed became inextricably tied to another royal family following the deaths of his son Dodi and Diana, Princess of Wales after they were killed in a car crash.
Commenting on the investigation into the auto accident, al-Fayed wrote, “I had to fight for this to happen. So many people in the British Establishment never wanted the inquests, because they were afraid of what would be revealed in court.”
Al-Fayed has never received British nationality, despite several attempts to gain the citizenship.
