It’s true that Gates is not exactly the coolest kid on the block, but since his rise to the top he’s made a few celebrity friends. He met Jay-Z, the best-selling American rap artist and CEO of Def Jam Recordings, at MSN’s Strategic Account Summit, a gathering of top internet advertising types.
Jay-Z, real name Sean Carter, is another self-made man, now famous as a businessman as well as a rapper. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, he appears to have had a tough upbringing (in his music he admits to dealing drugs; he is also said to have shot his brother in the shoulder). But he found his way into music, ultimately selling 40 million albums. He now runs Def Jam, boasts his own clothing line, owns a major night club and half of the New Jersey Nets basketball team.
