Although Sheikh Mansour provided the cash for the takeover, the face of the Manchester City deal was undoubtedly Sulaiman Al Fahim. Fahim, who is the CEO of Hydra Properties, is host to the Arabic version of The Apprentice called “The Hydra Executives.” The businessman, who has a Ph.D in real estate from the US, is said to be a chess champion and announced the project of an International Chess City in Dubai, worth around $2.6bn, in 2004 when he was the chief executive of Dubai Projects. Ranking in sixteenth place in the 100 Most Powerful Arabs, Fahim believes the key to success in business is innovation. Fahim is reported to have said: “You have to do what you believe is right, even if everyone else tells you it is wrong. I said that as a company we would be unique, and everyone said you can’t be unique in property development. If you try, you will fail. Well, we are unique and we are successful.”
