The French first lady received her Qatari counterpart last year for a state dinner at the Elysee Palace, in Paris, joined by their other halves, Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Hamad and French president Sarkozy.
Bruni is a former model-turned-singer, who married the French president in early 2008. She is heiress to the Italian tire manufacturing company CEAT, and is legally the daughter of concert pianist Marisa Borini and classical composer Alberto Bruni Tedeschi . However, in 2008 she told a magazine her real father was a Brazilian grocery magnate named Maurizio Remmert, who had an affair with her mother as a young classical guitarist.
