$ick in $tyle: Can you afford a 5 star hospital?

When you live in the Emirates for as long Kipp has, it is a little difficult to get phased by extravagant displays of wealth. In fact, just yesterday a friend sent us an article about a Saudi millionaire who dished out more than half a million on a ‘special’ bottle of Cristal at the Cavalli Club earlier this week, we just yawned in boredom. Been there, seen that (note the humble alteration to usual phrase).

So the fact that we were shocked by the Dh35,000 a night luxury hospital, should be a marker of just how terribly excessive this new venture is. Yes, you read that right, we are talking about a ‘luxury hospital.’ The Royal Suite at Burjeel Hospital comes complete with a dedicate butler, five bedrooms, two balconies, toiletries from Armani, a gym, kitchen and a dining room.

“There really is nothing like this in the UAE. We want the Royal Suites to be seen not just as a classy place but as an extension of the state-of-the-art healthcare we provide” smirked Burjeel’s director of operations, Clancey Po, adding: “We believe they’ll (the Royal Suites) be used by the UAE ruling families or by company chief executives.”

Kipp has so many questions, we don’t quite know where to start—does insurance cover this? How much do medical procedures cost? The one thing we are sure about, is this hospital will surely have customers. In this part of the world, a luxury hosp-tel is bang on the money, Kipp’s a bit annoyed we didn’t think of it first.
