The Sharjah Municipality has said that it will build “upgraded” toilets throughout the city.

According to Gulf News, the Sharjah Municipality has recently built an upgraded toilet, equipped with air conditioners, and plans to have many more throughout the emirate soon. ”There are older toilets, but it seems that nobody uses them. With these upgraded toilets, we hope residents will be encouraged to use them and that there will be no need to go to restaurants and cafeterias anymore,” the head of the Environmental Section at Sharjah Municipality told the paper.
That is good news. But why is the environmental head giving out the statement? Were the older toilets an environmental hazard?
