Expensive Dubai

Dubai is the 20th most expensive city in the world. Ironic, then, that most expatriates move to the emirate to save money.

We trust you heard that Dubai is the second most expensive city for expatriates in the Middle East (Tel Aviv tops the list) and the 20th most expensive worldwide? In one year alone Dubai jumped 32 places on Mercer’s Worldwide Cost of Living Survey 2009.
It’s a little upsetting, especially since we uprooted ourselves and moved to Dubai to save money. We can’t help but laugh at the irony; we couldn’t have chosen a more inappropriate place to save. Maybe the financial crisis will take care of that.
Do you think Dubai will go further up that list next year? Will you stay in Dubai to find out?

It’s a shame that Dubai has become that expensive. For the last 5 years, the advantages that Dubai had, are being cancelled out one after the other.
It was a lovely place. Only reason we’re still around is because of what the French call “faute de mieux”
There are some signs that dubai shouldnt get more expenisive. Rents are much lower than last year peak, hotel rooms rates are very competitive and back to 2002 prices. Restaurants and consumer goods need to go down further. I think with the recession going on your stuck in Dubai and you should be glad for having a job where millions globaly lost their jobs. We all should stop complaining and enjoy life instead because we are blessed for the life we have. Dubai is expensive so try to find a subtitution. If shopping here is expensive shop online or from somewhere else. Prices wont go down if you keep on complaining and at the same time rushing into buying and spending money on unnecessary things because if you do then your have the capacity to pay.
