Fat’s your lot

A website for ‘beautiful people’ has kicked out more than 5,000 members after they over-indulged during the festive season.

BeautifulPeople.com, a website which only allows access to so-called ‘beautiful people,’ has expelled more than 5,000 members after they put on weight during the Christmas and New Year holidays, reports the Daily Mail.
“Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business,” said Robert Hintze, the site’s founder. “We mourn the loss of any member. But our users demand the high standard of beauty be upheld.”
The site has 550,000 users worldwide and most of the members thrown out came from the UK, US and Canada, says the report.
“We responded to complaints by moving the newly chubby members back to the rating stage. This is the same as having them re-apply,” said Greg Hodge, managing director of the site. “Their re-applications were reviewed by existing members and only a few hundred were voted back in. Over 5,000 were rejected.”
“Every year we see that some of our members from western cultures eat and drink to excess over the holidays and clearly their looks suffer,” he said. He did generously say, however, that BeautifulPeople.com hopes they will be back, “after shedding the festive pounds.” The website sent the “fatties” details of fitness centers to help them on their way.
Kipp is both bemused and amused by the site, which automatically assumes that fat cannot be beautiful. And we’re feeling for those evicted; it seems they’re now lumped in with all the rest of us normal folk. We can’t feel too sorry for them, however; anyone who joins a website which proactively discriminates against people probably deserves whatever they get.
