Fly pigeon, fly

A South African IT company, Unlimited, got so frustrated with the slow internet connection in the country, that it actually proved that a carrier pigeon transmitted messages faster than the country’s main internet provider, Telkom.
According to reports, a 11-month-old pigeon, Winston, had a data card attached to his leg, and took one hour and eight minutes to fly the 80 km between two of Unlimited’s offices.
On the other hand, the Telkom line took two hours, six minutes and 57 seconds to download and transfer only four percent of the data.
Now that is one great PR stunt by Unlimited, even if it was not the company’s intention.
The move may probably not lead to an immediate improvement in internet speeds in the country, but it certainly managed to highlight the problem. And also make Winston famous.
