Just the Good News, Please

That’s the title of a new Human Rights Watch report on the new media law in the UAE.

We received an invite recently from Human Rights Watch to attend a news conference next week in Dubai, where it is planning to release a new report titled, “Just the Good News, Please: New UAE Media Law Continues to Stifle Press.”
According to the report, the upcoming media law in the UAE will “restrict free expression and interfere with the media’s ability to report on sensitive subjects.”
With all the ‘Dubai-bashing’ in the international media, a report like this is unlikely to be considered ‘complimentary’ to the emirate’s image. It will probably give the world’s media cause to criticize Dubai for ‘muting’ its media.
In the meantime, we will be attending the conference, and we’ll update you on the details of the report next week.
