Mambo No 7

WEF says the UAE is the 7th most efficient in terms of government spending. Governance and efficiency…who would have thought these two words would be said in the same breath?

In these times, surrounded by economic instability, bloodshed and political protest, it’s hard to find a reason to be a happy camper. This is why we are genuinely glad to see reports like this served up by the local press more often than we’d expect.
It was a particularly dull morning, a case of the Monday blues if you will, when we read the report in good ‘ol Emirates 24|7 about the 2010-2011 Global Competitiveness Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF) ranking the UAE 7th in the world in terms of efficiency in government spending.
Apparently it was the UAE’s ability to enhance the efficiency of its government spending and transparency which impressed the WEF the most as it prized “efficiency of government spending and preserves public money by clearly determining activity and program costs, outcomes and objectives.”
Did you catch that, dear Kipp reader? The efficiency of government spending and transparency.
A cause for celebration, surely. Let’s bring our dancing shoes out and dance the mambo.
Kipp is glad to hear that despite the country still working its way out of collective debts such as those from Dubai World, Nakheel, The World, $25 billion debt (and that’s just one emirate) that WEF has seen fit to name the country as one of the top ten most efficient spenders in the world.

most pathetic comment… try to get some good stuff… horrible!
Just means there’s not much wastage lost in the system, doesn’t means there’s not huge amounts wasted elsewhere.
