Pay it forward…

…Dubai style-by giving your valid parking ticket to the next person who needs one.

Because Dubai can be, ironically, a rather cold and unfriendly city, Kipp was pleasantly surprised by this random act of kindness reported in this morning’s The National—which sees residents of the UAE giving their still valid parking tickets to other drivers if they no longer need it.
The idea came from one Mr. Kuruvilla, who told The National, “Just as I was trying to pay for a ticket, he came up to me and offered his. Initially, I thought I was being fined for something and my heart started racing. But when he gave me his ticket I was simply elated. I couldn’t stop smiling the entire day.”
Kuruvilla who started this Facebook page to spread the campaign encourages those who have bought a parking ticket for an entire hour, but have only used five minutes of it and have no use for it to “gift” the parking ticket to somebody who is looking out for a new ticket. And if you can’t find anyone who wants the ticket, simply leave your parking ticket in the parking ticket meter for the next person who will use the machine.
Sounds like an excellent idea to Kipp—what do you think? Have you ever “gifted” somebody your valid parking ticket? Or has anyone done the same to you?

Fairly sure transferring parking tickets is illegal and punishable by a fine. Good luck Samaritan!
Nothing new there – was already a general practice when we lived in Umm Suqeim 2002-2008…
guy (now in rural france – no parking meters!)
