The free ride’s over
Abu Dhabi residents need to get used to the paid parking scheme the government enforced on Saturday, otherwise, they could face hefty fines.

It doesn’t feel good to pay for something you’ve been getting for free, like parking space. But since the Abu Dhabi government is adamant about its paid parking scheme, it’s time the capital’s residents wake to pay up.
However, less than half of the residents in areas covered by the “pay as you park” scheme have bought annual permits.
“Only 30 to 40 per cent of residents in the areas covered by the paid parking system obtained annual permits. So we thought that a grace period is needed to help the remaining 60 to 70 percent of the residents avoid penalties and the decision was to urge those who fail to pay to either obtain annual permits or pay the parking fees,” said Najeeb Al Zarouni, Director of Parking at the Department of Transport.
And don’t go around pretending you don’t have the money. We know all about Abu Dhabi’s salaries…it makes Kipp sick to think about it.
