A man in Wisconsin stole a car on Thursday afternoon, but returned it after discovering an infant in the backseat, reports Channel 3000.com. The child’s mother told police that she had just stopped by her house to pick up some water and food. When she came back out, the car was gone.
According to the police, the thief drove the car back to the residence a few minutes later, after apparently discovering the baby. He then jumped out of the car and ran away. The baby was not injured.

Well it is common sense really, auto theft and kidnapping are fairly different charges, the second one bearing far greater consequences. Addittionally if he had abandonned the car elsewhere and something happened to the child, 2nd degree murder is even worse. Car thieves are usually not ready to risk the death sentence for it!
