Queen Rania is speaking out against honor crimes in Jordan.

Jordan’s Queen Rania is lobbying for tougher sentences for men who harm or kill their sisters and daughters to preserve family honor, reports The Telegraph. The move follows the death of a 37-year-old mother of eight in Jordan who was allegedly murdered by her brothers at the behest of her husband.

Not everyone, however, is happy about the Queen’s stance. Sheikh Hamza Mansour, leader of the parliament’s Islamic Action Front in Jordan has hindered the Queen’s plight. “This whole issue is being exaggerated, and the reason behind it is not innocent,” he said.

“It’s as if the government is giving up our personality to turn us into a Westernized society,” he added.

How is it that educated men could openly condone murder as a means of preserving honor? How could there ever be honor in murdering your own flesh and blood?

If fathers and brothers were killed for shaming their families there would not be many men in Jordan.

Honor killing is an oxymoron. Where is there honor in killing another human being?
How come we never hear about reverse honor killing? Are all men as pure as they show to be, then let them cast the first stone.
This mediveil mubo jumbo shold be abolished and people practicing it should be incarcerated for life.
