The Queen’s not coming to town

UK’s Queen Elizabeth II has cancelled her visit to the Gulf because she has too much work to do. How sad.

February 8, 2009 2:56 by

The Times has reported that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II has cancelled a tour of the Gulf in March because of an overburdened work schedule. Apparently, the annual G20 meet in London is to take place in the week after the Queen was due to return from her Middle East trip, and hence put pressure on her itinerary.

The paper says that this is the first time (in a long time) that a state visit has been cancelled for reasons other than war or terrorism.

It’s not like the Queen is going to be shaking hands with us, but her trip here might have brought some excitement to our lives.
