The weakest defense
A lawyer claims his client has no motive to steal because her husband’s loaded.

A lawyer defending a 26-year-old Emirati policewoman charged with stealing AED12,000 from a detainee told the Dubai Court of First Instance that R.M. had no motive to steal, reports Gulf News.
“My client earns a good salary. She had no motive to steal the detainee’s AED12,000 and besides she is married to a wealthy husband,” explained Obaid Ali Obaid. “She lives a decent and happy life and all the allegations about her being a thief are baseless and malicious.”
“The evidence which was brought against my client was uncorroborated and insufficient. The lieutenant who questioned her claimed that she confessed to him implicitly and later retracted her confession. Your honor, there is nothing known by implicit confession. The lieutenant’s statement was inconsistent and unfounded also. He brought these allegations for personal interests,” said Obaid.
N.M. is pleading not guilty.
That’s not much of a defense. Although many people steal out of necessity and desperation, others do it for the thrill. Besides, the crisis has proven that some of the world’s most prolific thieves are wealthy.
