A headline in today’s Gulf News left the Kipp team somewhat puzzled. “Dubai Police chief asks spies to leave the region,” it read.
“Those spies that are currently present in the Gulf must leave the region within one week — if not, then we will cross that bridge when we come to it,” Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim told Gulf News.
There has been a Hollywood-style drama surrounding the murder of Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai on January 19: the manner of his assassination, the video footage released by the Dubai police, the alleged fake identities of the suspects, and so on. Against that backdrop, the existence of spies working in the region seems very much in place.
The Gulf News report says that the ultimatum “indicates that Dubai Police are aware of the identities of spies” operating in the region.
