Walk this way
Kipp's ready to walk

Walking. We used to do it all the time back home. But we don’t walk anymore. It’s not done in Dubai. Besides, where are you going to walk to? If you live in a district like Jebel Ali or Mirdif, walking will only take you to the middle of the desert. Then what? You’ll have to walk back, and that’s not fun (we’ve done it, it really isn’t fun, especially if cars packed with men staring hungrily at your…arms keep trying to pick you up).
The Dubai government, however, is going to change all that. Apparently, they want you to walk. Do you know what this mean? It means that for the first time in a long time the government and Dubai’s residents agree on something: walking is good.
According to a report in Gulf News, Dubai will have 580 kilometers of walking and cycling tracks on a number of roads.
“We [consider] walking one of the safest transport modes with great benefits. The objective of the RTA is to reduce the dependency of the residents on vehicles for short-distance travels,” said Abdul Mohsen Ebrahim, CEO of the RTA’s Strategic and Corporate Governance Sector.
We couldn’t agree more.
