Why Gulf expats love Fox News and the Daily Mail
Are all immigrants evil rapists, and is Obama really a terrorist? You could be forgiven for thinking this, following a quick consultation of the media in your home country. But is this such a bad thing?

The United Kingdom is populated solely by knife-wielding teenagers, rapist immigrants, bogus asylum seekers, Islamic terrorists, benefit cheats, fat people, cancer-stricken working mothers, petty-minded bureaucrats, debauched homosexuals – and, apparently, motorists who have recently been given a speeding fine.
But that’s not so bad, when you consider that the US recently voted in a terrorist for a president, ushering in a government that condones statutory rape and pedophiles.
Welcome to the twisted world of the Daily Mail and Fox News. The way the newspaper and TV station portray life in their respective home countries (the UK and US), is alarming to say the least. Are all immigrants rapists, and is Obama really a terrorist? You’d think so, if you’ve been reading/watching this.
But Kipp’s question is: Why do so many Gulf expats seem to be addicted to this stuff?
Could it be that reading about a society full of swan-eating Eastern European immigrants (yep, you read that right), knife-wielding teenagers and terrorist presidents helps reassure expats that they made the right choice in leaving their home countries?
Perhaps. One British expat consulted by Kipp says that reading the UK media does, occasionally, make them feel glad they left – even though they acknowledge that not everything they read is accurate. “All that grey, all that crime. The UK is a ****hole,” as they elegantly put it.
But an American colleague is not so sure.
“Fox News makes me very, very sad. I know that the news anchors are not as dumb as they make out. It reinforces the idea that it’s good to be so willfully stupid. But does this make me unwilling to return to the US? Not really. But Sarah Palin certainly does.”
