Airports to Charge Security Fee

Starting July 25, every passenger will have to shell out an extra Dh5 for a safety and security fee.

In these times of increased fears over inflation and oil prices, I bet the last thing that residents of the UAE needed was an additional tax, sorry I mean fee of any sort. But that is precisely what they are getting starting July 28.
Khaleej Times reports that Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum issued ministerial decree No 16 which states that every passenger who travels through the UAE airports will be charged an airport security and safety tax, sorry I mean, fee starting from next week.
Now, though Dh5 may seem like chump change for most, considering the fact that Dubai International Airport has earlier reported passenger traffic climbing 8.8 percent in May 2011 (compared to the figure in May of the previous year) to 3.97 million passengers, it all adds up. Looks like this tax, I mean fee, is going to go a long way…
