General Musharraf is the former president of Pakistan. Prior to being president, he was the nation’s prime minister and the chief of army staff. He resigned as president on August 18, 2008.
General Musharraf staged a coup d’état in 1999, ousting then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and dismissing the national legislative assemblies. In 2001, he declared himself the president of Pakistan.
