Are you going to GITEX?

Kipp is, assuming the boss will sign off on the Metro fare. But will you be going, and what can we expect when we get there? Here’s a brief preview…

Raffle Draws:
Some of the major attractions at the GITEX are the abundant and generous raffle draws. From the raffle every 15 minutes (during which Jacky’s is giving away everything from a 32 inch LCD screen to the iPad) to Jumbo holding a raffle every hour, visitors can walk away with some pretty nifty freebies – including the chance to drive off in the new 2011 Ford Edge. BDL, CompuME, E-Max, E4U, iSTYLE, Klick and Plug-Ins are just a few of the stores that will also be giving away stuff.

Premiers and launches of products are another reason to go the exhibition. Kipp is looking forward to having a chance to play with two toys Panasonic will be debuting at Gitex; namely the world’s largest 152 inch, full HD 3D plasma display and the world’s first 3D camcorder for consumers.
We are also looking forward to checking out the newly unveiled wireless routers from Cisco Consumer Products which are designed to connect all household wireless devices including notebooks, printers, TVs and game consoles. The new Canon EOS 60D, a DSLR camera for the semi-professional photographer, will also be launched at GITEX.

Stars of the industry:
And at the trade show, a host of bigwigs from the electronics industry will be doing their best to hog the limelight. Among them the top draw: Randi Zuckerberg, Facebook’s marketing supremo, and Jim Balsillie, the co-CEO of Research In Motion, the company behind the BlackBerry. Will we finally get some answers as to what happened with the TRA’s infamous BlackBerry ban? You bet your behind we won’t. And how many questions do you think Ms Zuckerberg can get through before her more famous brother crops up?

If we’ve convinced you, why not pop down to GITEX and let us know what you think. The main consumer hall will be open from 11am to 10pm on October 16 to 20 and from 11am to 11pm on October 21 and 23. On Friday, the show will open from 3pm to 11pm.

Few years back, GITEX was free from entry fee only requirement was a simple registration and Gitex Shopper was also free, but since last 3-4 years one has to pay a entry fee to attend this. This I feel is not a good practice and entry fee for shopper event as well at AED 25 this year from from AED15 last year. Only happy team in this are the organisers who are making money from both ends.
After spending time and money by going to shopper the bargain we get is not worth it and eventually all IT products price come down in a month or so so why bother?

Gitex used to be a big event but not anymore. When I was working in a reputed advertising company in Dubai, Gitex was the life breather for all of us, I remember once we revived from the edge of death solely accounting on Gitex! Not anymore!
The excitement and WOW! factors has been faded ! Probably people started thinking wisely now a days. Electronic Item’s price will definitely go down after their launch, probably because of ever evolving technology; when they come up with new one the old one has to drop the price! And in current situation this is happening in rapid pace! Why do you have to spent two to three thousand more to buy something that is not a necessary for your daily life, especially when it will be available lesser price in 3 months time?
