How would you like it if there was a man telling you about everything that is going wrong in the world while you’re having your morning coffee?

Just because Gulf News is one of the most widely read newspapers in the UAE, doesn’t keep them for screaming news at you at every instance they get. Take for instance the newly released coffee collars at Tim Hortons with Gulf News headlines.

Duleep George, executive director of marketing and sales at Gulf News, says: “We continue to innovate and stay ahead of the times, whether through our daily news p ackage, the latest technology or marketing and promotions, an example of which is this coffee cup sleeve.”

Innovate? Sure!  We understand if Gulf News stamped a massive QR code on each coffee cup—that way it would be a voluntary and also interactive option for readers who are interested. But, here at Kipp coffee is a therapeutic ritual. We consider it sacred—a little downtime before we get back into the rat race. We are inevitably bombarded with bad and sometimes violent news but do I really want to see it on my coffee cup? No. Not now and not in 75936536535 years from now.

    Chances are, though, given the level of “journalism” here in the GCC, the headlines would lead you to the real, front page, top global news stories: “Emir of Qatar sends a message” and of course, “The ruler of Dubai walks around and looks at stuff.”

    And whats exactly wrong with that J MrC?
    People here want to read about their respected leaders as they love them and respect them. Its not like the West where headlines are all about which actor is divorcing and which dog got lost.
