Al Jazeera English Finds an Audience
Al Jazeera may be well loved here in the Emirates, and in the entire Arab world for that matter, but when it comes to the US, it has a contentious track record. During the Iraq war the channel came under severe criticism from the Bush administration and even to date is only broadcast in a handful of cities including Washington D.C., Burlington, Vt. and Toledo, Ohio. But with the channel’s 24 hour thorough coverage of the ongoing crisis in Egypt, it may have gotten a reputation makeover. Its online-live streaming got it 1.6 million views in the United States and ABC’s “This Week” Sam Donaldson apparently looked at an Al Jazeera reporter and said, “Thank you for what you’re doing.” So is this a turning point for the Arabic-English channel? Read this article to find out what the New York Times thinks.
The Youth Unemployment Bomb
Speaking of Egypt, how did it all begin? Tunisia. And how did that begin? Youth Unemployment. And what does Bloomberg have to say about youth unemployment? “The world is aging. In many countries the young are being crushed by a gerontocracy of older workers who appear determined to cling to the better jobs as long as possible and then, when they do retire, demand impossibly rich private and public pensions that the younger generation will be forced to shoulder.” As a relatively young web site, Kipp is upset.
Five emotions invented by the internet
Do you know how you feel as you wait for the person you are instant messaging to reply to what could be construed as a hurtful comment but was genuinely heartfelt? A mix between anxiety and frustration—as you tell yourself the person on the other side has left the table at the moment. Well, it only makes sense that the advent of the internet should have consequently resulted in the advent in a whole range of feelings; but Leigh Alexander was probably one of the first to list them out. Make sure to click through to the link from this Telegraph article to get the entire list.
What women really want on Valentine’s Day
V-day? More like D-day. Time for you to bring out the big guns and show the Missus just how much you’ve been paying attention to what she’s been saying and just how sensitive you are. But what if you haven’t been paying attention to what she’s been saying and have the sensitivity of a big chunk of stone? In that case, this might just be the ultimate cheat-sheet for V-day slackers. But get a move on; you have just little over a week to catch up with her expectations.
The Hottest New Technologies Of 2011
Why does Motorola say it has the most powerful new smartphone this year? Apparently the Atrix 4G has the first dual core processor phone from AT&T. The Android phone has HTML5 support, two 1 GHz processors, 1 GB of RAM. Atrix 4G can also view HD video and show any e-mail attachment. When you dock the phone it turns into a small laptop. Intrigued? Check out this list of the up and coming hot pieces of technology this year.
