The 2011 oil shock
The current unrest in Libya has seen the country’s oil production halve and consequently oil prices have increased – though perhaps not as dramatically as some feared (at least not yet). The price of Brent crude reached $120 a barrel on February 24. The promise of extra production from Saudi helped push prices down again, but as the unrest in Libya, and the Middle East continues, prices are on the up again. Do we have a genuine reason to worry? Yes, says the Economist, and here’s why.
Can Buy Me Love
Kipp’s become just a little morbidly fascinated by the eccentric ruler that is Gaddafi, and while we did thoroughly enjoy the ‘Zenga Zenga’ remix as much as the next person we also found this Newsweek article rather interesting. The article explores how the Libyan leader “used money, and well-timed diplomatic overtures, to worm his way into the West’s good graces. How Bush, Blair, and Berlusconi gave the brutal dictator a makeover.” It isn’t the most original story, but serves as a good reminder of how some of the world’s most powerful men only serve as enablers when it comes to the eccentric dictators who propagate ideologies so opposed to Western ideals.
Forbes’s 2011 World’s Billionaires
So the list for 2011 is out and though Kipp didn’t make it on (for obvious reasons), there were quite a few big UAE names on the list including Mashreq bank Chairman and CEO Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, who ranked number 426 with an estimated fortune of $2.7bn, and Saif Al Ghurair, chairman of the Al Ghurair Group, who has a fortune of $1.7bn and came in at number 736. And of course, Landmark Group owner Micky Jagtiani ranks at an impressive number 376 with a fortune of $3 billion.

If you read Kipp’s B2B, you will notice how we enjoy comparing random things (and of course, pronouncing a judgment on it). It gives a sad sort of control in our lives, which therapists may read comes from a lack of it in other aspects of our life. But for now we don’t care. In fact, we are going to continue with our awful habit by looking at this list from Time of the top 10 consumer tech rivals. So, Google or Safari?
