Story telling is another important aspect of human society. The world of literature is included in the Nobel Prizes, of course, but we felt compelled to mention the Man Booker Prize, which was awarded last week. This annual prize is for the best full-length novel in English by a citizen of the Commonwealth Nations, Ireland or Zimbabwe. First awarded in 1968, it was sponsored by a company called Booker McConnell. In 2002 it was transferred to the Booker Prize foundation, and the Man Group took over as title sponsor. Top prize is a healthy 50,000 pounds, but more importantly international renown and guaranteed success.

This year’s winner was Howard Jacobson, for his book The Finkler Question.
