Dubai World Cup
Dubai and Horse Racing: If the rumor that Kipp has heard that Sheikh Mohammed only washes his horses with bottled Aquafina is anything to go by, horse racing in Dubai is really big money. In true Dubai fashion, the Dubai World Cup is the world’s richest race, worth a net total of about $23 million. This is from the Dubai World Cup worth $10 million; the $5 milllion Dubai Duty Free race; $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic; $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen and the $1 million Godolphin Mile. The event, which attracts more than 50,000 race-goers every year, is a major boost for tourism especially as it takes place during March when temperatures are still moderately tolerable. The World Cup, is the ‘brain child’ of Sheikh Mohammed who is known for his passion for the sport especially since he launched his now world famous Godolphin stables in 1992.
