He suggests that the risk of stock investment is only worth it during the years that you have enough income and safe assets to survive market fluctuations. Bodie recommends safer investments, like bonds, whenever investors are not financially equipped to deal with a worst-case market scenario. The pro: safety. The con: low returns over the course of your professional career may not buy you the retirement you’d like.
